You’ll see the house of the peones camineros, where the people in charge of maintaining the Camino Real, an old road that linked Extremadura with Castile, used to live. If you are feeling adventurous, you can climb up to Monfragüe Castle, which has the best views of the park. The chapel houses the figure of Our Lady of Monfragüe. The red route also takes you to a cave with drawings depicting people and hunting scenes, made by the first inhabitants of the park. Prehistoric men and women lived in caves like this one. It is possible to visit the cave, but only accompanied by a guide. One of the most spectacular spots in Monfragüe is the Salto del Gitano, a 300 metres high cliff which towers over the Tagus River. From the viewpoint you can observe the different birds that fly over the area.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ specialty_columns=”2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ Follow this path on the right side of the stream to the bridge over the Malvecino stream, 600 metres further on. The bridge is made of wood with slate pillars, and is surrounded by alders and ash trees. It is a cool place where you can rest. The climb up to Villarreal is 1.1 km long and very easy.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.27.5″
